The Fresno Teachers Association had made a statement before their official strike against the Fresno Unified School District:
In a joint statement issued Monday, the Fresno Teachers Association and the Fresno Unified School District both say they have spent “countless hours” to make progress to address contract terms according to local news sources.
Here are some big wins for the new contract created by the association:
Teachers would receive a 21% salary increase over three years.
- 8.5% raise in the 2023-2024 school year.
- 3% raise in the 2024-2025 school year.
- 4.5% raise in the 2025-2026 school year.
- They would also receive a 2.5% one-time payment next year (2024-25) and the following year (2025-26).
This would bring the average teacher salary up to over $105,000.
The new ratios effective July 1, 2024 are:
- Kindergarten - 3rd grade: 23 to one
- 4th-6th grade: 28 to one
- 7th-8th grade: 27 to one
- 9th-12 grade: 28 to one
If a teacher's class exceeds a given ratio, the agreement stipulates that they'll receive stipends between $2,500 to $5,000 depending on how many extra students they have.
Contract terms have been negotiated with both parties and have reached a tentative agreement, from both teachers and district administration.
Both sides are continuing to work through this evening and remain optimistic about continued progress.
